I barely wanted a decent bread keeper to replace my archaic old oval bread tin that has been passed on to me by my mother. I saw the Crystal Fresh Bread Keeper from the Progressive International and this looked fine on net. Having used a vegetable slicer and mandolin from this brand and being quiet satisfied with its performance, I went ahead with the Bread Keeper without going for any second thought. This was more so because I had no prior experience with the bread keepers and moreover I don not have much faith on the reviews given by the customers. Further it came for just $10 and I got it with lot of expectation.

Once I laid my hands on this Current Bread Keeper, my heart sank and after the first few use, I lost hope on it. If I had seen this in a retail store, there is no way this would have been my choice. Because this is so delicate and fragile that it doesn’t require any technical expertise to mediate about this inferior product. It takes only a bit of common sense to understand the disastrous construct and flaws in the construction. To begin with this is made of an acrylic polymer that looks like a cheap plastic. This is not sturdy and every time I use it, I have to be extra cautious to not to descend it down.

Strangely, this does not have the typical smell of the weird plastic containers and the natural aroma of the bread is not lost. The acrylic is transparent and you can see the bread inside without really opening it. This Bread Keeper comes with small holes and this is probably the only thing that I find good about this container. The pores are of upright size and number so that there is proper air movement and this ensures that bread remains fresh without going stale or dry.

This comes with a dimension of 6.25×6.75×6.75 inches and can be expanded up to 11 inches to house bread of bigger size than the standard one. It is honest that this compact bread keeper sits in one corner without occupying much space but then I find that it can engage in loaf of only 5 inches width without squeezing them in. What I don’t understand is that why this apparatus comes as a two piece and not something like the regular container type with a body and lid. This actually has two acrylic parts and this cannot take the bread fully. By the time I get the bread out of this apparatus, it gets crumbled and the powders make it a mess.

I would have been happy if at least the slicer functions properly. The plastic slicer can be used to cut the bread as a whole and not on need basis. The guides do not allow easy entry of knife and adds to the trouble. While storing the bread, the slicer has to be taken out to accommodate the whole bread. The guide spacing is good enough and the bread loaf can be sliced uniformly but the enlighten is that this Bread Keeper lacks consistency in performance.
